Hi there! Thanks for coming learn a little bit about me. My name is Janet LeBlanc and I am the owner, maker, creator, designer, writer, and brain behind Lazy Owl.
I was the definition of left brain. Six years in college with a degree and masters in accounting. Working sixty plus hours a week in a cubical churning out spreadsheet after spreadsheet for the man. A couple years out of college and I quickly realized the creative imagination that thrived during my childhood had withered to a tiny speck. And I wanted it back ASAP!
I set up a craft studio in my house and began experimenting with jewelry making. Lazy Owl Boutique was born in May 2011 when I finally transitioned to a new job that gave me more time to craft outside of the work week. Having a creative outlet and running my own business outside of cubical nation has been such a rewarding experience for me. Once I turned on the faucet of creativity I couldn’t stop.
I design and craft by hand every item you see in my shop with pride. I love working with customers on custom orders, whether it be for a wedding or just a special request. My products have shipped to all corners of the globe, and are featured locally in the Houston Heights at a new shop called Roundtable Goods.
In 2012, I decided to take the plunge into the unconventional life. I’ve quit my steady accounting day job to allow me the time and freedom to more fully pursue my small business dreams. My goal is to continue creating and selling jewelry pieces via Lazy Owl Boutique while expanding the Lazy Owl brand into a venue for sharing entrepreneurial ideas and advice. I’d like to combine my business background, educational experience, and entrepreneurial experiences to provide helpful articles, worksheets, and downloads for other creative business men and women out there.
A lot of us have big dreams and are brimming with creativity, but we lack the business knowledge and marketing finesse to fully execute our vision. At the very least, many artists and crafters find business concepts like pricing, accounting, and bookkeeping intimidating, challenging, or unimportant. My goal is to change that! I hope to hone this website and the Lazy Owl brand as a go-to source for small business resources for creatives, a true intersection of left brain and right brain!
